One Month

Holy moly, we are one month into our new lives with two kiddos! It is a crazy kind of wonderful. We had our son's weight checked today. At 4 weeks old he weighs 10 pounds 10 ounces! Yay! Must mean Mommy's doing something right with nursing. He has started giving Mommy (and Daddy) at 3 hour stretch of sleep at night, which has been WONDERFUL! Daddy is so very supportive of this breast feeding Mommy. He gets up with me (when I ask him to) and changes a diaper so I can get ready to feed him.
Our daughter loves being a big sister. She especially loves when her little brother's eye's are open. For the first few weeks it seemed all he did was eat and sleep. She gets so excited and says, "Look Mommy his eyes open!" She is still learning to share all of the toys. Its been fun to see her get excited about all the "baby" toys that have been put up for so long. Its been like Christmas all over again.
A few weeks ago, our daughter saw a Disney commercial on TV. It shows kids at Disney World meeting the characters. She recognized the castle right away. Mommy and Daddy told her that when her brother gets a little bigger, she would get to go to the castle. (This summer we are going to Disney World.) Oh my, she has NOT forgotten this. Every time she sees that commercial she tells us about how she will get to go to the castle and see all the princesses. Poor girl has to wait about 5 months, but oh boy is she excited! When we drive downtown and she sees the tall buildings she calls them castles. Some mornings she wakes up talking about going to the castle. I can't wait to see her reaction to seeing the castle and meeting the princesses. I'll probably cry!
For those of you that know us, you know that we thrive on a schedule and with routine. Thankfully we've managed to keep our daughter in her normal routine and we are working very hard on getting our son to blend into our existing schedule, with his own routine. I'm sure this will get easier as he starts sleeping more at night.
It "snowed" this week. Meaning we had some flurries that were visible. G was so excited! She saw the snow flurries and asked to put on her boots to make a snowball and Olaf! We've only had one measurable snow this year. I thought for sure we'd have at least one more. G would love to play in the snow. Mommy on the other hand is ready for spring. I need warmer temperatures. I'm ready to get my babies out of this house.
Mommy's best friend had a little girl 4 days before Mommy had her baby boy. We visited this week, finally! Both of these babies look like their Daddy.

Great Grandma with my babies!

He's Arrived!

Our handsome baby boy arrived December 30 at 1:46 p.m. weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces and 21 inches long. At his most recent weight check, at 16 days old, he weighed 8 lbs 14 oz. Baby boy is eating all the time and Mommy is happy she's providing all he needs! Big sister was thrilled to meet her little brother. She didn't want to hold him for about the first week, only hug and kiss him. Now, she asks to hold him all the time and even tries to pick him up. It melts my heart to see her love him! Mommy isn't getting much sleep, but what breastfeeding mom of a newborn gets sleep?!? He eats about every 2 hours, so that means I get at most 1 1/2 hours at a time. Stinker! The benefit this second time around is that I know this won't last forever. He is a really good baby. He only gets upset when he is hungry or has a trapped burp.
Daddy took 2 weeks off work and it was heaven! It was so nice to have the time for all of us to adjust to our new normal. Mommy is doing well taking care of a toddler and newborn on her own since Daddy has gone back to work. Luckily, G has embraced her big sister roll and is an incredible helper. She throws diapers away, helps clean and cook, and her independence has grown tremendously. She gets bigger every day!
We are all crossing our fingers for an early spring! We all love to be outside and this cold weather is making us stay inside more than any of us want. Yesterday was a "warmer" day and we took a family trip to the zoo. We stayed mostly inside Amazonia because it was windy.
Special thanks to Roberson Photography for our amazing photos, love my sister and her rock star husband!

Because I'm a HUGE Harry Potter fan!
